Wondering what your child will learn this Summer?

Each child will be evaluated to place them in the correct level. We will first assess them based on their age and the skills they have already acquired with previous swimming experience. It is not an issue if your child is below or above what their age suggests by the Red Cross's lesson plans; we will always do what is best for the student first to help them succeed!

The skills listed below under each level are the most significant. Children will also learn more than just these during their lessons!

LEVEL ONE: Survival Swimming & Water Familiarity

LEARNING GOAL: Swimmers will work on developing survival swimming skills, becoming familiar with the water, and becoming confident while in the water.

AGE: 0-2+

Enter & exit water with help using water, steps, or slide.
Blow bubbles independently with both mouth submerged and whole head.
Open eyes independently underwater.
Kick feet in front of while sitting on the side of the pool.
Submerge body in water.
Submerge head in water.
Braced back float.
Braced front float.

LEVEL TWO: Introduction to Water Skills

LEARNING GOAL: Swimmers will learn the basics of swimming and will be able to perform them confidently with assistance from the instructor until they are confident.

AGE: 2-4+

REVIEW ALL SKILLS LEARNED IN LEVEL ZERO
Enter & exit water independently using water, steps, or slide.
Blow bubbles independently with both mouth submerged and whole head.
Open eyes independently underwater.
Kick feet in front of while sitting on the side of the pool.
Kick feet behind the body, either braced on the side of the pool or by using a kickboard.
Submerge body fully in water.
Submerge head fully in water.
Braced back float.
Braced front float.
Introduction to independent swimming in shallow water.

LEVEL THREE: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills

LEARNING GOAL: Swimmers will work on developing and refining more complex skills independently.

AGE: 4-7+

REVIEW ALL SKILLS LEARNED IN LEVELS ZERO AND ONE
Enter & exit water independently using water, steps, or slide.
Blow bubbles independently with both mouth submerged and whole head.
Open eyes independently underwater.
Kick feet in front of while sitting on the side of the pool.
Kick feet behind the body, either braced on the side of the pool or by using a kickboard.
Submerge body fully in water.
Submerge head fully in water.
Braced back float.
Braced back float.
Unbraced front float.
Unbraced front float.
Independent swimming in shallow water.
Change direction of travel while swimming on front and back.
Treading water in shallow and deep water.

LEVEL FOUR: Stroke Development

LEARNING GOAL: Swimmers will work on developing and refining more complex skills independently, and will work on performing these skills in deeper water.

AGE: 7-9+

REVIEW ALL SKILLS LEARNED IN LEVELS ZERO, ONE, & TWO
Headfirst entry from the side of the pool from a sitting and standing position.
Bobbing while moving to safety.
Push off in a streamlined position in shallow and deep water.
Introduction to dolphin kick.
Introduction to scissors kick.
Introduction to front crawl.
Introduction to breaststroke.
Introduction to elementary backstroke.
Diving for submerged objects in shallow water.

LEVEL FIVE: Stroke Improvement & Refinement

LEARNING GOAL: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills. Swimmers will work on developing and refining more complex skills independently, and will work on performing these skills in deeper water

AGE: 9-10+

REVIEW ALL SKILLS LEARNED IN LEVELS ZERO, ONE, TWO, & THREE
Headfirst entry from the side of the pool from a compact position.
Feet first surface dive into deep water.
Timed survival swimming in deep water.
Swim submerged, 3-5 body lengths.
Push off in a streamlined position in shallow and deep water.
Introduction to submerged open turn.
Improvement of the front crawl.
Improvement of the breaststroke.
Improvement of the elementary backstroke.
Introduction to butterfly stroke.
Introduction to sidestroke.
Diving for submerged objects in shallow & deep water.
